Why this is important and what are the required CEU’s annually?
Jessica Yelverton, Extension Education & Training Specialist I for the NC Code Officials Qualification Board
I coordinate the education aspects of the certification program for the Code Officials Qualification Board. This includes both A. pre-service which are the standard level courses required before inspection certification is granted, and B. in-service which are the continuing education courses required annually for each standard trade certificate held by a Code Enforcement Official.
CEU refers to the Continuing Education Unit. Each year, CEO are required to earn 6 CEU’s for each trade they hold a standard certificate in order to renew that certificate for the next fiscal year. Continuing education is an important tool to keep our state inspectors up to date on any changes or amendments to the code and new installations that will appear in their line of work.
Standard Course can be taken for Continuing Education credit but not course can be repeated within a 3 year period for CE credit.
